Devin -- August 2017

Another summer has flown by and with both Devin and Kyler in full days this fall I am not sure how I am going to be spending my time, but my guess is that I will fill it with not problems. We spent the end of the summer together enjoying time at the pool, outside and just being together. Devin had summer school, which of course he LOVED and LOVES his teachers. I am so grateful for all those wonderful people who love on my kiddos while I am not with them. Here are just a few highlights from this month.

  • Whatever is offered for a snack, Devin will almost ALWAYS pick apples first
  • After almost a year in Miss M's class, it is great to hear how he is being such a good leader
  • Picking blueberries meant lots of walking and eating
  • He loves to take the yoga mat to me and have me roll him up in it
  • "Da" has become so much clearer!
  • Will sometimes wake up so upset and just cannot calm himself down.
  • Giggles at certain phrases in books like "tip-top" in Mr Seahorse
  • He loves to wake up early and takes all the decals off the walls in his room.
  • During church he will often open and close doors but also try to escape so the times of nursery are at an end
  • Had a great time with water day at school
  • After getting bored with taking the decals off his walls, he started to unzip his bed rail!
  • We explored Rush Creek park and he loved to walk around in the creek
  • Most kids like playdoh but Devin just likes to stack the containers
  • We visited Binder Park zoo and loved going on the train, he even pet a goat
  • Has learned to take his shirt off over and over again
  • At the pool he knows just what to do and he will often go over and get his swimmie himself!
  • He loved the Hudsonville Fair again, and this time he wanted to ride on the ferris wheel as well as giggled with his brother when doing the cars that wipe around
  • Continues to push or ride his tricycle but does not seem interested in doing the balance bike or the big wheel
  • He helped me to decorate cupcakes and later it was fun to snuggle UNDER the blankets
  • Dev loves to bring things onto the deck with him, like blankets and remotes
  • School started and I had to bring your brother to his bus stop which meant you stayed home in your room, making Duncan very upset
  • We visited your classroom and it was great to see you go and hug all your teachers right away.
  • Your second year of school started and this year you ride the bus with Mr Greg who is such a sweet man! We just have to learn to wait for the bus now

Kyler -- August 2015

We had a very busy end of summer with visiting Princeton, having Ryan home for "Twenty Daddy Days!" and gaining a new cousin. We are so happy to be able to spend time together as a family and we love getting to see how much Kyler is growing. We ended this month with having Kyler get to visit his new school and boy can he not wait to start! Here are the fun things we did this month:

  • Went out and picked blueberries out at Reender's. Kyler loved to "fill" his bucket and often brought berries to Devin to eat. We picked over 28 lbs all together
  • Helped Daddy to wash the CR-V and when he was goofing around Daddy would tell him "get back to work" when he was goofing off (jokingly) and then when Kyler would be sitting he would tell him self "get back to work."
  • Mommy took Kyler to get a hair cut and we got it really short for the summer.
  • Has been really good about riding his balance bike and stopping at the edge of the street, then looking all over and waiting for me. He will often tell me when it is safe but still had to wait for my okay
  • We baked blueberry muffins together and had fun watching American Ninja Warrior...which he LOVED
  • At the Farmer's market, there was a kitten who just loved him and it was so hard to not want to bring him home! Daddy would hate it, but I may someday approve
  • With a new development by us, we go and explore the new streets and the large hill that he loves to ride his bike down...maybe sledding in the winter?
  • We have begun to go out to redeem library reading rewards, such as a Marshmallow Magic Milk from Biggby. He LOVED it
  • Daddy days started with Ryan staying home and Kyler had so much fun doing bike rides, exploring tunnels and seeing ground hogs
  • When Kyler hurt his ankle, he had to have a band-aid on but would only wear it if Daddy wore a matching one.
  • Had a great long hike at the Hudsonville Nature Center (Kyler requests going there more than any other place, even places with playgrounds).
  • We had Kyler help us bring cookies to some new neighbors
  • I made grocery flashcards for shopping and he loves to go through his "list" when we shop
  • Kyler got an ice cream cone for making good choices, but when he dropped it and Duncan ate it he was really sad, so he drank all of Ryan's shake!
  • Went to Boulder Ridge Animal Park and he LOVED feeding the birds, giving giraffe's carrots, telling us all the facts that he would hear and holding a baby chick and bunny. He even gave the bunny an Ugga Mugga
  • We got to meet our newest cousin, Sullivan (Sully) Franklin Leep. Kyler was very excited and actually fairly quiet and gentle around the baby.
  • We had a bonfire with friends next door, but Kyler came up looking for us and became upset because he could not find us. He was worried so he made sure to check on Devin which woke him up and sent me in the house because the monitor was going off. Poor kid was so sad, so we had him join us out for the bonfire and soon he was happy as a clam
  • We bough him a new bike with pedals to try with Daddy, but he has a hard time getting peddling
  • At the front of church, he did a really good job being quiet until after the prayer when you shouted "I opened my eyes a bit"
  • Had a great time eating his own personal pan pizza from his reading club
  • He has started to read on his own! We have been listening to him repeat books but we tried to do a few new books and sure enough, he is reading!
  • At the garden center, Kyler told an employee that he loved him...we are working on his differentiation.
  • Enjoyed Orange Leaf yogurt and you loved adding things and later trying to get Devin to try it.
  • Has had a great time playing with our Light Sabers
  • When we visited Baby Sully, Kyler wanted to know if we were going to take him home, but when I told him that I could not feed him, Kyler said "Well we can just buy another high chair"
  • Had a really good trip out to Princeton, loved riding his bike with his cousins, helping Grammy make dinner and enjoying rides in Grammy's car
  • We went to celebrate Parker's birthday, run around in the backyard and later got to help reveal that his new cousin would be a girl in January
  • Kyler had an itchy eye, which we thought was allergies, but soon we found a sty in his eye
  • We watched "Star Smore's" on Sesame Street
  • Had a great time at the Hudsonville Fair, including five extra ride tickets due to reading this summer. He loves the Ferris wheel and even after eating dinner at the HCS tent, he kept wanting to get Grandpa and Grandma to ride it with him.
  • Has started to help put dishes in the dishwasher and set the table. He has also enjoyed vacuuming the floors
  • We enjoyed watching old movies and having popcorn, he loves his popcorn
  • Had a great time in the 3:18 room during church doing stickers with his buddy Cohen
  • After walking, wanted to help push Devin in the stroller rather than ride his bike
  • Went to visit Kyler's school and had a great time meeting students and playing on the playground.
