Devin -- September 2017

This little nugget just keeps us hoping! It is hard to believe that he will be starting his second year in preschool with Mrs. M! It is always sad to have the summer end and the school year begin but I think that Devin loves a routine and will enjoy being back with teachers that are so loving and caring. Here are a few of the highlights from the month:
  • Devin now knows how to unlock the slider and loves to go in and out as he pleases, which is not the best for his parent's nerves but now we have stop signs on all the house exits
  • Daddy was happy to have this little guy sit and watch some football with him
  • Doors are a wonderful obsession and will often wait to leave any area until the doors are fully shut
  • Every time we go to Grandpa and Grandma's pool, he brings the puddle jumper right away to get into the water, he takes after his mommy!
  • After a long bike ride, Devin likes to sit on my back to make sure that I can fully stretch out
  • Devin still does not like things that are too hot or cold so when we get ice cream he eats the sprinkles
  • Now riding the bus to school! When the bus is late we walk around in a very small loop to keep him busy and ready to go
  • At one point we thought that Dev had said his name, but at least a few "d" sounds are great
  • Trying to visit the Calvin volleyball game, Devin did not want to leave the lobby because he loved getting to watch the elevator doors open and shut
  • Devin continues to love to ride in the Burley during bike rides, but the problem is that he never wants to stop!
  • He still loves his daddy nose buzzes
  • Has mastered saying the word "ball" and can sign for it!
  • While shopping was able to get a sucker with gum and seemed to really enjoy chewing
  • Visited the ENT early in the morning to see that the tubes are out and that wax has been cleared out
  • working on cutting up pieces of food and did really well with cutting up bananas
  • Devin has a new fun job at the store, helping to return cans!
  • Taking walks is still a favorite but lately he likes to stay inside cud-a-sacs over and over
  • He might not like to write but he does like to trace letters with his finger
  • Whenever he is hungry he loves to go get apples and veggie pouches for snacks on his own
  • Dev is my favorite slow dance partner and he often lays his head on my shoulder during it
  • After a full month of school, he had to stay home with an upset tummy.

Peek-a-boo!

Kyler -- November 2016

This big guy is now five! It is crazy to think about how fast time has gone but he always has something to say and show me. We had fun outside before the weather gets colder and preparing for the arrival of his new Guinea Pigs. Kyler also had a great time taking his Dad to Frontier day at school. We put up our Christmas decorations and Kyler continues to love the huge tree box and to put the star up on top! Here are a few more details of this fun month!
  • While getting donuts at our favorite place, Sprinkles, Kyler explained to some of the customers why his donut was called a bird's nest. "Frosting is like a bird and the donut is like a nest"
  • Such a great helper pulling his little brother in his wagon for a long walk
  • Kyler loves to read to his little brother
  • While at small group, he was listening to our lesson and later told me that "Jesus is King"
  • Had a great time pushing his own little shopping cart to get items for his new guinea pigs
  • Took some fossils form Daddy to bring to school for "F" day
  • We have a lot of fun doing color by numbers together
  • At Frontier Day at school, Kyler enjoyed making a candle, butter and even had a special name "Red Hippo"
  • Kyler helped to name the new girls Zane and Zelda. He was so excited to pick them up at the foster family house and talked to them the whole time in the car on the way home
  • We enjoyed another fun filled time in the leaves at Grandpa and Grandma's house, with Kyler getting dumped out of a trash can of leaves
  • Kyler likes to read phrases to his Hallmark "Jingle" to get him to bark
  • He loves to watch the old Super Mario Brother's show
  • Devin and Kyler love to giggle and wrestle together
  • Kyler will try to do "kisses" with Devin and it will often also make him laugh
  • Whenever we went to the vet, he loves the kittens and asks all the time when he can get a cat
  • He eats very well when he wants but he is still considered tall and slender for his age
  • At his birthday party, Kyler loved his Green Ninja cake form Ninjago
  • While we were at a football game, Kyler had a great time with Grammy and Papa as well as Uncle Gene and Aunt Lois. Kyler requested having Uncle Gene read to him
  • Kyler loved to surprise his Dad at work, bringing cupcakes and then wanting to stay to hear the rest of the lecture
  • Thanksgiving had a lot of belly pain and just could not calm down so we headed to the hospital where he had an ultrasound and also x-rays.
  • Had a great time with his friend Ben when they came over to visit
  • Kyler got to pick out his own tree this year and had fun decorating it on his own
  • Ryan had a great helper putting up lights outside.

Look at that smile!

Both Boys love this, pulled and pulling!

Kyler -- October 2016

October is always so much fun with kids. The weather makes it great to be outside. It is fun to point out all the different colors. We get to go apple picking, play in leaves, choose a pumpkin, trick or treat and enjoy the wonderful donuts at Post Family Farm! I cannot believe that we are already to October again, but as soon as it is gone we get to focus on other fun things too. Here are some great things that we did with Kyler this past October

  • Kyler still loves to make up Angry Bird games over and over again
  • In church Kyler is starting to remember the words to the songs and sings along, I love it!
  • When in front of church the kids were asked where God is, Kyler said in our hearts
  • We love color by number, and Kyler will go and get his "Clipping board" to deal with them
  • He had a great time doing show and tell at school.
  • Kyler continues to have fun at soccer and got to be cheered on by both sets of grandparents.
  • Grammy taught Kyler a new phrase that we heard for a LONG time "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner"
  • Kyler likes to "learn his maths"
  • Daddy and Kyler game time is always fun to watch and after a game of Ticket to Ride they started to sing She's got a ticket to ride too...another phrase we heard a long time
  • Kyler wanted a challenge so we did color by numbers with math, and he can do the addition and the subtraction all on his own!
  • We had a great time going to Crane's to pick apples. Kyler's favorite variety this year was the "Mutsu" and he ate a LOT of apples
  • Kyler loved getting to go with his Daddy out to see the Calvin Women's volleyball team, and they even got him a shirt too!
  • We were all sad to see Devin's Early On worker leave when he turned three but Kyler told her that if she ever wanted to come and baby sit him that he would ask us to go out on a date so she could.
  • Kyler had a lot of fun going to the vet with me and Duncan. He loved getting to hold the cats and it is a lot of fun to see how much he loves animals
  • For Devin's birthday we had Grammy and Papa in town again. Papa joined Kyler and Daddy at the Volleyball game and it was so sweet of the coach to give you a ball and backpack too! You are their unofficial mascot!
  • We went out to dinner at Red Robin, and you did really well waiting even if the waiter forgot to take our order.
  • At Target, you fell in love with the Ninjago costume that was there, so we ordered it secretly even though you thought that you were going to be BobaFet
  • Kyler showed his really kind heart by helping me walk Devin to his first day of school and then told me it was okay when I cried. He was such a great comfort!
  • Kyler and I had fun running a few errands together, including getting some skeleton dog lights for Daddy's office!
  • We made a lot of applesauce and Kyler did a great job of cutting up the apples with me with his kid knifes!
  • Daddy took Kyler and Devin to the hardware store and there were fire trucks there. Kyler loved showing them off to his brother
  • We tried to do family pictures and they did not turn out the best but Kyler had a great time running around and being a ham for the camera
  • After a lot of "I can't" Kyler can now put his shoes on himself
  • Daddy went out of town for a while, so to make a fun evening, we all had TV dinners! Kyler thought it was pretty special!
  • Complained about his fingernail hurting and it did get pretty yucky and infected so we had to start soaking it in hot water and give him medicine. We both had to do the same thing at the same time!
  • Now that Devin is at a different school, we were able to go to his school to trick or treat there! Kyler loved seeing all the costumes and going to get more candy
  • We did head out to Post Family farm to pick out pumpkins and had to have more donuts. Kyler was really helpful pulling the wagon with Devin and the pumpkins! Strong kiddo
  • Kyler got to trunk or treat at our church on Saturday and had a great time running around with his cousins and their cousins too!
  • With a fairly new house we have never had a lot of leaves to jump in. Kyler had a TON of fun going to Grandpa and Grandma's to jump and bury himself into the huge piles of leaves
  • Daddy got home the day before Halloween so Kyler and him made sure to carve pumpkins into Ninjago characters!
  • Kyler was so excited and surprised when he got to see his Ninjago costume, he loved wearing it
  • Kyler again loved going trick or treating with his cousins around the Wiersum's house. He was a bit on the wild side but it was great to see him having so much fun.
