Devin -- July 2017

More than half of summer is over and we had a great time this July with a wedding in Princeton, camping at the conference grounds and just hanging out as a family. It is always great to see where Devin is growing and learning. He is making great strides, maybe not as much as someone who is typical but he still is gaining and for that we are always thankful. Here are a few highlights of this past month!
  • Devin loved being in Princeton but did not want to sit for a wedding so we took a long walk on the golf course
  • He loved getting to sit on the golf cart and it was great to see how happy that made him
  • While at the pool, he has started to kick more on his own and let go of adults too
  • He loves to eat strawberries, often choosing them over many other things
  • Devin still loves books and will take out a book with letters, trace them and say the sounds that they make
  • Pouring water on his head for baths has always been a problem, but with brother letting him pour water on him first, Devin has started to giggle and seems to like hair washing
  • Whenever we give Dev the choice of jammies, he always seems to pick out the footie ones
  • Our family loves to go to the park but Devin never wants to go to the playground, just to hike
  • We are trying to make sure that Devin knows how to do yard work, starting out with my first job, collecting the hasta flower stems
  • Has been saying "Khhh" for Kyler when he wants him
  • Our first night at the CRCG and he loved the pizza from Fricano's
  • Unlike last year, Devin actually liked the beach and the sand. He really loved the waves
  • On Monday morning there is always a fun run at the Conference Grounds, and Devin loved getting pushed in the Burley but the hills were killer with him along!
  • With many people from church camping with us, it was great to have others there to pull Devin in his wagon, his favorite activity
  • At the camps pool, Devin is so used to being able to play with everything that we had to make sure he didn't just help himself to other's items
  • A very nice lifeguard gave him a basketball to hold
  • After a long day on the beach, it was great to see him snuggled up with one of Kyler's friend playing tablet
  • Having to force Devin into a shower to wash him up and clean his hair was not a great time, nor did many people in the public shower area appreciate his screaming
  • Devin usually does not like ice cream but he ate it and wore a lot of it too!
  • There were many different textures to walk over at the camp grounds, but he loved walking on the cobblestones the most
  • Poor kiddo became sick on Friday of camping and had to go home early. Poor kid couldn't keep food down and had a fever...and our air conditioning was broken at home
  • Started to really like Curious George for a short time
  • Getting to be such a big boy, he now sits in a regular chair at dinner and not in the Svan chair
  • Devin must have needed a little extra love because while I was responding to emails, he climbed up into my lap.
  • One of his favorite books has letters and arrows to show how to trace them. He will trace and make the letter sounds!
  • Had to get a haircut but while he was facing me on my lap seemed to make a big difference!
  • Rain boots are his favorite footwear and on all the time if he can help it
  • He is also becoming very good at undressing himself too!
  • Books are still a favorite, especially the Gingerman books by Susan Murray
  • At the end of the month he was VERY excited to go to summer school and see Miss M!

Kyler -- July 2017

This is the middle of the summer and we have been busy and active! We started out the month by going to a wedding in Princeton with family and Kyler was having a great time dancing and just socializing like the little extrovert that he is. We camped for the second year at the conference grounds with lots of great times with wonderful people. There were swim lessons, pool times, and of course lots of wonderful memories with this sweet little guy! I love him so much and here are some of the great highlights of this day!
  • In Princeton this kid packed away 4 waffles! Teenage appetites don't start yet do they?
  • He loves to make little kids laugh, especially his cousins Ainsley and Lawson
  • At the wedding, he was so cute taking his tablet everywhere and taking pictures of everyone
  • This kid is a dancing machine =)
  • Like his mother, he loves to play Zelda on the Wii
  • We have a rule in our house that if you want to eat the batter, you have to help make the cookies...monster cookies with Red White and Blue M&Ms for the win!
  • After a lot of swimming, cookies and even a nap, Kyler had a great time talking about the shapes of fireworks with his dad in Allendale
  • Always a great helper, he allowed his brother to pour water on his head in the tub to make it easier to wash his hair
  • Swimming is something that Kyler loves and it is so great to see him using his arms more and more!
  • We had friends over the pool and had to get the staples, cheese popcorn and lofthouse cookies before playing a lot of sharks and minnows.
  • Going to the park as a family is hard because Kyler really wants to be on the playground but his brother does not, so it was great to see him be so patient
  • Took Kyler to a movie to see Despicable me and had a great time eating popcorn and having a freeze!
  • His imagination has turned towards pokemon now! He likes to try and "catch" his own!
  • There are times that Kyler tries to help his brother with his shoes but there are times he gets into the "bossy" realm.
  • We like to watch American Ninja Warrior together and I love to see how Kyler has such a sweet heart for those who have overcome hardships
  • At the Conference Grounds and after 1 hour, he is already covered in dirt from the playground
  • While at church, Kyler tried to stop a kid that was messing around and not listening...he wants to so help in so many ways
  • During the Fun Run he did not stop at all and ran a mile in under 12 minutes! Good work kiddo!
  • With Daddy knowing so many of the student workers at the pool, he loves saying hi to them, especially Mr John who works as a lifeguard!
  • One of the first nights, he loved to play Newcomb with older kids and watched the boat races in his jammies, what a great time!
  • We love having cousins and Grandma come out to the grounds for some fun and it was great to take them to the beach, play with friends and enjoy trying to balance on the huge raft!
  • One of the girls from our church was getting teased by another boy (three years older than Kyler) so you stood up to him for her and told the boy to be kind and friends with her.
  • Had a great time at the pool with a new friend Nichole from church and of course snuggled up with her and asked for her to be a babysitter! Kyler does like the ladies
  • After Devin was sick, he had a great time trying Pronto Pup and going to the beach with Daddy
  • At the pool, loved trying to catch a frisbee and asked Aunt Diane to come over and babysit him sometime
  • Kyler continues to make fun things up with his imagination, including a candy crush game!
  • For swimming lessons he was a bit worried that he had to do things he did not know how, but he crushed it! Yeah Kyler!
  • Always honest, this kid told me how badly I smelled when I came home from a long bike ride
  • "Why don't I sweat like you?" so then there was a long talk about how girls and boys grow
  • So worried when we went shopping that Devin would "get dead" if he did not hold hands in the parking lot...sorry we freak you out kiddo
  • This summer he has been diving to get rings off the bottom of the pool! Yeah Kyler!
  • While at the pool and keeping Lawson laughing when he said "babies need a lot of attention!"
  • Of all the things that he loved to play with, the calculator was a huge hit on his tablet
  • Had a great time going to the playground to meet kids that will be in his class next year! Cannot believe that he is going to be in Kindergarten!

First fruit roll up!
