Devin -- June 2017

It is hard to believe that this little guy is going to be done with his first year of school. I know that he is going to have a great summer and we did have a lot of adventures but it is so amazing to see how much he has grown. There was a lot of swimming, walking, hanging out with brother and just time outside. He loves all of these and I am sure that there will be many more hours of all of this come July too! Here are some highlights we had this month.
  • For his last day of school picture he would NOT smile
  • He has been practicing taking his clothes off now that he has learned this skill
  • After a hard workout he loves to sit on me and help me to stretch
  • His teacher informed me during his IEP that his walking and being so distracted has to do with the fact that he has a horizontal line fixation and just loves to follow them and not look where he is going!
  • So thankful that this summer he has been much better at putting sunblock on!
  • When kids are out of school, they have to do lots of grocery runs with me, and Devin had a great time hugging strawberries and putting them in bags with me
  • We often go to the library for its summer reading program but he is still terrified of the automatic doors
  • Devin loves to watch Kyler play Wii and will hold his own remote too
  • Tried to get him to help water plants or the slip and slide but just not interested in it
  • As much as Dev loves the pool, he REALLY loves to ride in the little inflatable boat that I can pull him in
  • When at the pool, he also loves to bring me my goggles and giggles
  • No matter what we try, Devin will not ride Sandy at Meijer
  • Going to Culver's for dinner and Devin just walked over to an older man and sat with him in his booth
  • At church we have been having a hard time keeping Devin from opening and closing the nursery doors
  • When dropping Kyler off at tennis camp, he did NOT want to get out of the car and screamed!
  • Nothing made Devin giggle more than feeding Mr Nibbles the Guinea Pig that we are summer sitting lettuce!
  • Poor kid was sick and did not even get out of bed - then asleep sitting up!
  • Devin brought me his outside pecs card and then my shoes to go for a walk
  • At the pool he only really lets me dive for things, but started to let his cousin Mekinley as well!
  • Had to hang out with Grandpa and Grandma as we went to the ER with brohter
  • When at the grocery store, he became so excited to see bouncy balls and his brother made sure I got one for him
  • At VBS did well with group until the craft room, he still hates crafts
  • Devin might eat 10 bananas a day if we let him
  • We took a long drive to Princeton for a wedding but Devin did not want to eat pizza and I took him for a really long walk in the heat...and we found 100$!

Kyler -- November 2015

I am finding that Kyler is doing more and more that I seem to deem "blogworthy" each month. He has a great imagination and it is so much fun to see and hear what he is thinking up. This month was a time where 3 out of the 4 of us had Strep, we drove to Princeton for Thanksgiving and we had two birthday boys! I cannot believe that Kyler is 4 already, it just seems like yesterday that I was snuggling with him on the couch sleeping on my chest. So here are a few of the highlights from this past month:

  • We had leftover glow sticks from Halloween, so we turned of the lights and he played with them in the tub...light saber noises included
  • Kyler loves to go to Home Depot and he was really helpful trying to help carry boards to the car with me
  • We have been enjoying the nice warm weather while we still have it, and Kyler has been getting better and better at his peddle bike
  • I had a hard time hearing that at school he said that kids were throwing wood chips at him, but when I asked him if he was throwing them too, he said he was...oh kid.
  • After a long walk in the park I saw that he had been wearing his shoes on the wrong feet since school (he had taken them off when he was not supposed to)
  • Loves to tell Devin things, and likes to point out traffic lights to his brother
  • We had a great time picking up McDonalds for a picnic and later playing at Rosewood park with cousins after BSF
  • Kyler makes new friends at the playground and soon him and a boy close to his age were running around pretending to be ninjas on the playground
  • Loves to tell me things he learns at school "Did you know that a squirrel's teeth never stop growing?"
  • Often likes to take a stick to pretend it is a light saber to battle milkweed plants on our walks
  • When we were watching a movie and I asked if it was going to be scary, Kyler told me, "Don't worry mommy, I will protect you."
  • After grocery shopping he often pretends to do it himself with the shopping cart downstairs
  • We are working on snaps and zippers with clothes
  • Kyler works well out in the yard and helped me pull up all the hosta for the winter
  • At church there was no Children's Worship and we forgot things to keep him busy, so he just played games on Ryan's phone the whole time
  • We had our first communion at church and Kyler did really well going up there
  • When I was really sick, he would often come into my room to check how I was feeling
  • In the morning I was taking a shower, but Kyler waited to pee because he did not want me to "have hot water when he flushed" (He listens to everything)
  • At his schools yellow day, he took the "slippery when wet" sign from Devin's play janitor cart
  • Kyler was diagnosed with rectal strep and a few days later his face puffed up like a chipmunk! The doctor said it was just allergies, but I wonder if it was the antibiotic.
  • Daddy became a hero when he found and downloaded Angry Birds Star Wars on the ipad
  • Kyler made a family of dolphins with play-doh naming them Light Saber, Play-Doh, Played, Crayon and the dog was Remote. Strange names for animals
  • Loves to play a game where he finds something in the play room that begins with letters of the alphabet and for the letter "K" he brought me a goat for "kid"
  • Has become very good at drawing himself and playing the game of memory
  • For his 4th birthday we had a great time going out for dinner at Tom + Chee where he got a donut grilled cheese with a candle
  • At school, for his birthday he got a fun crown and to pick something from the prize box. Kyler picked out a ring with pretend diamonds on it for me because he thought I would like it, rather than anything for himself.
  • Kyler loves to help me bake, and he did a great job working on his Daddy's cheesecake
  • One of Kyler's favorite foods are Cheese Kurlz, and his fingers turn orange enough to prove it
  • Kyler was such a great help putting up the Christmas tree this year and wanted to put ALL the decorations on at once.
  • We put Christmas lights up in his room this year and he told me that "I think that I can handle this" right before saying "I am not that interested in this"
  • After the first snow, he walked around with Ryan trying to see if the snow tasted different in any of the yards
  • At the doctor's office, he told the nurse that he was "obsessed with ipad" and due to his reading and language, they believe that his IQ is around 160 or higher...yikes
  • After visiting with the doctor, Kyler got upset because "I miss him" and told the nurse that he wanted to say "Happy Thanksgiving" to him. The nurse took him back there just to say it to the doctor, how sweet!
  • Did really well traveling all the way to Princeton on Thanksgiving Day and loved getting to spend time with his cousins.
  • Had so much fun eating lunch with the Krieger family that he had almost the whole restaurant in tears when he asked why Uncle Dave was old?
  • Has already begun to drive his own Mario Kart Wii car
  • We had a great time decorating spritz cookies for Christmas and watching a new favorite movie Wall-E.
