Kyler -- May 2017

This kid always makes life so much fun and busy. I cannot believe that he is going to be in kindergarten next year! Time really does fly. We are all excited to get outside more and enjoy the sunshine. Kyler has loved getting to ride his bike more and more, maybe soon we will get rid of his training wheels too! Here are some of the fun adventures we had this month!
  • Excited to ride in a Booster Seat in the car now!
  • Loves to do Color by Numbers!
  • Grandma took Kyler to the park so that I could take care of his sick brother
  • He loves to be in the tub for "relaxing"
  • Library time and picked out Pokemon chapter books!
  • Had fun surprising Daddy at Calvin for his Professor of the Year award. He wanted to sit in class with the students but that might have been distracting
  • While I run on the treadmill, he cheers me on!
  • At Wendy's he loves to drink the mango iced tea
  • During reading time he was being quiet and told me that "I am reading in my mind mommy"
  • Took a long bike ride all the way to Grandpa and Grandmas house!
  • Had the stomach flu and had to take a bucket in the car to drop brother off at school
  • When feeling better, told me that he was proud of Jesus because after praying He had healed him
  • Due to being sick, Kyler had to miss out on soccer and a field trip
  • Had a great time reading outside for a picnic.
  • Talked with teachers about what would be best for schooling next year, skip kindergarten? 5 day or 4 day? We decided to do 4 day kindergarten
  • Had a great time at the playground with Daddy and did the monkey bars all by himself
  • When Devin received a big boy bed, it was cute to see Kyler wanting to read to him in there
  • I came home from a long run and told Kyler that I was stubborn and did not want to give up to which he said "Don't say that about yourself mommy, your perfect!"
  • Tried wearing my Fitbit and had so much fun running around with it to gain 10.000 steps!
  • Made apple pizza snacks
  • Had fun exploring a park and jumping right into the creek with lots of splashing!
  • While stretching I often employ Kyler to walk on my back...feels so good!
  • Helped me to pick out plants and put them in the soil
  • Last day of Preschool and we all headed out to play on the big kids playground!
  • Went to Wedgewood Park and had fun feeding the ducks, but the geese were a bit scary
  • Preschool graduation was super cute and later he picked out a stuffed Pokemon called Flareon and then went to watch Boss Baby the movie!
  • Kyler could live on popcorn and slushies
  • Ryan and Ky are really competitive when playing Mario Kart
  • Memorial Day parade fun and even shared with other little kids that did not get much
  • He is growing up so much by helping with trimming bushes and later roasting his own hot dog over the fire!
  • He was super kind to Duncan in the bath and kept telling him that he was his favorite dog of all time
  • Had a great time breaking a large ice cube to "excavate" toys

Kyler -- January 2015

Kyler is potty trained! I cannot believe how fast it went, but we got home from the holidays and literally within a few days, he peed in the tub and put it together that this is what he has to do in the potty. We went from pull-ups to underwear in a matter of a week without many accidents, and even learning to pee while standing up. I cannot believe how easy it was. Once Kyler was ready, he just got it, and there was not much we had to do. He even wakes up from his naps with dry pull-ups, so even then he has been wearing underwear. We had a lot of other big adventures this month, but saying goodbye to diapers was the big one!
  • He has been more adventurous about trying foods again, so he's had honey and avocado.
  • He came down with a really bad cough and had a super scratchy voice for a while
  • He is working on his "L" noises, slowly getting a bit better.
  • He loves to do yoga on the Wii.
  • All of us got sick, and when I was in bed trying to get some extra sleep, he came in to check on me. I asked him if he could be my doctor, and he said, "I no doctor, Mommy. I get you water though." He had a great bedside manner.
  • Ryan and I had an argument, so Kyler kept saying, "Apologize please."
  • He tried chipotle dip at store: "So spicy!"
  • He loves to play "volleyball" with a large orange ball in the living room. He likes to head it!
  • He has been having a lot of temper tantrums, and one day when I asked if he wanted to nap at 11:00am, he said that he did...and slept until almost 3:00pm!
  • He loves the taste of fondant.
  • He said, "Love you, Mommy," out of nowhere...makes my heart happy!
  • While watching a slideshow with family, he said, "Look at that!" for every picture.
  • He gave me a "spa day" by brushing my hair and wanting to use the entire contents of my bathroom drawer on my face.
  • He loves to give Devin a hug at night and gets great big smiles from his brother.
  • He has become obsessed with eating tortillas (plain) and nuts of any kind, but especially cashews.
  • When Ryan woke up from a long night with a migraine, Kyler said, "You should go back to bed, Daddy."
  • We went to Hudsonville Christian's early childhood open house and signed him up for 3-school!
  • He threw such a huge fit that I did not even get out of the parking lot at the grocery store (and he never throws a fit at the store).
  • When he pees standing up, he always says, "It's yellow every time."
  • He sang, "I am toot-toot-toot-tooting on an adventure," while watching the Cat in the Hat with Daddy.
  • He did very well getting his hair cut, but he always wants the "black one," not the fishy cape at the hairdresser's.
  • He had a great time at the pet store and really wants to get more pets.

Kyler -- October 2014

Every month brings so many new things, but it feels like our falls are just so super busy with school starting back up full swing for Ryan and the boys' birthdays. Kyler has been growing up so much, and it has been so much fun to see how his little gears are turning and how he is learning so much. Along with all of this learning, Kyler has started to test limits and throw temper tantrums a lot more, which can be very trying at times. With Devin rolling all over, there is some conflict with toys at times, but Kyler really has such a good heart, and as frustrated as he gets, he does share more often than not. Here are some fun highlights of the month:
  • Kyler sat in the inflatable tub we got out for Devin and held Olivia in it all by himself--he was so proud!
  • Kyler loves to do yoga. He gets out my mat and will do poses with me and with Wii Fit on the Wii.
  • We visited Post Family Farm for donuts, and he had a great time feeding the sheep and chasing the chickens.
  • He now has nicknames for Grammy (Graham Cracker) and Papa (Poppyseed). He also calls himself Popsicle.
  • He woke up with blood all over his pillow, and we found a big gash on the back of his head. It was pretty deep, so we took him to the med station, where they said to just keep an eye on it. Fortunately, he did not need stitches.
  • While coloring a book at the med station, he asked me to "clear it" of color like he does with his coloring app on the iPad.
  • He said, "Sometimes I do tummy time with Olivia and Devin. They are the best babies ever!"
  • Both Devin and Kyler had multiple fevers and colds this month, which led to lots of cuddling.
  • Kyler has been soaking through his cloth diapers and actually pooped on the potty twice!
  • He has been waking up a lot and can open doors, so he will come upstairs all the time, at any hour. Once I went downstairs with him and was prepared to sleep next to him to help him sleep when he told me, "Mommy, I go to bed now. You leave."
  • At the front of church, he told his buddy (who did not want to go to class), "We have to go to Bible, Cohen."
  • We got a clock that changes color when he can get out of bed. At first it scared him, but now it is the best thing ever! He waits for the light to turn green and tells us it is green when he comes upstairs at the proper times!
  • We got a new car seat and he LOVES it!
  • He had fun outings at the John Ball Zoo for "Boo at the Zoo" and going to Crane Orchards to pick apples.
  • We had fun going to the Urban Hay Day in Hudsonville, where he had a hay ride, launched rubber chickens with Grandpa, decorated his own cookie, sat on tractors, and had an all-around great time.
  • After Devin's birthday party, he went with Daddy and family to see the Jenison high school marching band competition and he LOVED it! He kept saying things like, "Here come the tubas!"
  • He has been able to sit and play a computer game on his own, though he is still not sure about the mouse.
  • He is getting really good at counting up to 20.
  • He loves art time and has a great time with finger painting.
  • He had a wonderful time dressed as a dog for Halloween and loved to spend time dancing with glow sticks with his cousins.
