Devin -- May 2016

May brings a lot of new things, including the end of school and more time as a family. Devin has been having extra time with Early On who are trying to help him with his speech. There has been a lot of stress over the lack of speaking and we keep having temper tantrums due to lack of communication. We all are getting frustrated but then this kid also love to snuggle and smiles at us all the time. We also had a great time enjoying the Memorial day parade and getting back into the pool for swimming. The end of the month brought surgery and ear tubes for Devin, hopefully helping his hearing and communication. Here is a few more exciting this that happened this month.
  • After a bath, this kid loves to have a massage with lotion, and often giggles during it
  • Was very crabby at a play date so had a quick visit to the doctor to find out that he has double ear infections again
  • When we walk outside, he loves to walk over the man hole covers and touch mailboxes
  • Makes a new noise "tickle"
  • At his last day of BSF his leaders have said that he has come a long way, which was really encouraging
  • Early On, a early child education team, came to work with Devin and evaluated him
  • He loves his new Croc shoes and will bring them to me all the time to go outside
  • We love to go out on the deck and he helps me to feed the birds
  • At the walk-a-thon for his brother's school he loved riding in the stroller and then later pushing it himself
  • We went out to dinner as a family to Subway and he did really well eating his egg flatbread and later discovering he liked drinking Hi-C and using a straw
  • I am starting to see how these boys are beginning to bond and Devin loves to be near Kyler, often choosing to sit right next to him at snack times
  • We often go for hikes at the Hudsonville Nature Center and Dev loves to touch any signs we see
  • When playing Sneaky Snacky Squirrel game with Kyler, Devin likes to sort out the colored acorns and put them in the corresponding spots.
  • Devin loves to read books, but we have been reading to him face to face so he can see our mouths forming the words
  • We went to the ENT office to get his ears looked at, and it took a long time to get in which made for a very fussy Devin while waiting
  • Devin loves to snuggle so he will often go and drag his blanket from his crib and bring it to us to snuggle with
  • We currently read Chicca Chicca Boom Boom over and over again, his favorite book!
  • Almost every day when the weather is nice we walk to what we call the "dirt hill" which is a big field where the boys like to explore and there is a dirt hill. It is now a place where developers are working on new houses
  • We had a great sleepover with cousins and that meant a lot of time on the swing set which Devin now loves the swings
  • When we had Sully over, he loved to watch Devin but Dev did not really want to share his toys much and would often go and take them back. Sharing is hard to do
  • My large silver work out ball has been a favorite toy for Devin to balance and bounce on
  • After a long hike he had lots of mosquito bites and was so itchy. Poor kiddo
  • Devin does not like to run through sprinklers
  • At the grocery store, he loves to put thing in the cart, but that does not work when he tries to put individual green beans in the cart and not in a bag
  • One of his favorite thing in the world is getting to ride in the burley behind our bikes and hates to get out.
  • When we worked in the backyard, he was mesmerized by the chipper and just wanted to sit and watch it
  • Was not too happy to sit and watch the Memorial Day parade, often wanting to walk down the sidewalk with one of us. He always stopped at the crosswalks though to wait for our okay
  • Had a great time going in the pool and even though it was chilly he loved to jump into our arms all the while smiling
  • The day after Memorial Day was surgery at DeVos for ear tubes. He did really well sitting and snuggling in pre-op as we read books but woke up very combative in post-op just like he did for his eye surgery. He wanted to eat and drink but that just meant a sick kiddo later on. We did a lot of snuggling at home afterwards.

Devin -- January 2016

So this has been a bit of a challenging month for our family. I have for the most part still been in bed this month but working on coming out more often. Ryan started working again so that meant we have had lots of great help with the boys. Devin and Kyler have been very good about just being flexible, but I have a lot of fun how often they join me in the bed when they are home. I am craving picking Devin up, but that will come with time. Overall this was a month where Devin has become more independent and at times a bit on the defiant side. Here are a few highlights of the new year.
  • Devin actually sat next to Ryan and enjoyed watching some football together
  • We did pack up the Christmas tree and decorations, which cause Devin to giggle the whole time
  • Had so much fun going outside to help shovel the driveway with his new shovel he got for Christmas
  • Devin still continues to fight us like crazy when he has to have a diaper change. At one point he actually got poop on the wall, himself and Ryan's face!
  • The new book "Dear Zoo" he got for Christmas has become a favorite, and read OFTEN
  • Loves to climb and stand up on furniture, including dinner tables
  • Has become the easier kid to shop with
  • While eating has starting putting his feet up on the table or pushing away from it when he is done
  • Still does not say much other than "Mama, Dada and Baby" but said "Tick" when I tickled him
  • Does not normally eat pancakes but while at Uncle Matt and Aunt Lori's he would sneak bits of them when no one is looking
  • Love to pull people around by their fingers or by the hem of there shirt/shorts
  • While sitting with me at the table, he kept feeding me raw broccoli over and over again (which is not my favorite) and kept giggling. At least it got him to try it too
  • Devin and Kyler both like to take my crutches away when I come into the living room, leaving me stranded until someone can return them
  • Still loves to play with the Mr Potato Head glasses
  • While doing stickers with me, he had his lovey pretend to do stickers and just kept laughing
  • Just like his brother, he loves to play with letters
  • Not happy when had to stay inside and watch the others shovel the driveway
  • We had fun giggling while watching family videos together
  • This kid STILL hates to have his hair washed
  • Has started to show me W and M and how he has to flip them to change, also with letters N and Z.
  • This kid LOVES yogurt!
  • Devin has a love/hate relationship with Duncan. He loves to feed him, but then gets upset when he eats what he offers him, especially if it is something that he likes to eat
  • While at Costco with daddy he tried a black bean burger and liked it!
  • Started to drink from a regular straw! FINALLY!
  • Loves to grab Daddy's basketball and roll it or bounce it in the house
  • When he wants to snuggle, he will often go and get his blanket, pulling it through the crib rails
  • When Daddy went to get donuts, Devin went right up to the box and tried to get into them
  • Devin continues to eat well, enjoying chicken tenders but still hates chocolate milk
  • Another favorite book "Snuggle the Baby" which has him doing "so big" and "hug the baby"
  • Loves to pull down his zipper on his winter coat...every...single...time!
  • Finally getting his top molars in!
  • Wanted to play games with his brother, and did try but hard to focus
  • Started saying "yeah" for Daddy and nodding head more often
  • Enjoyed a egg and cheese flat bread sandwich from Subway which is great because this kid does not like to eat bread!
Getting ready for heading out into the snow!

He loves to take the crayons in and out, not so much color with them

Lovey lost his head, but Devin still wanted to snuggle with it...kind of creepy!

This kid loved getting to use his new shovel

He likes letters too!

This kid loves to stay hydrated!

My snuggle bunny! I love him so

Doing stickers with mommy in bed.

He loves his water bottle...

...here mommy, you look parched

Kyler -- January 2016

This month has been a lot of fun times playing in the big bed with me. Kyler has had a lot of fun doing games, art projects and even watching a few shows on my computer with me. We have been a little relaxed on screen time but it has been fun to spend some time with this kiddo 1:1 in bed. He has loved going to so many people's houses and often asked who is baby sitting him for the rest of the week. I am starting to wonder if he is even going to want me back to my former self! Here are a few fun highlights for this month:
  • Had a great time sharing a favorite tradition, watching the Rose Parade with Kyler in bed
  • After the parade with me, he enjoyed a little time watching football with Daddy
  • When we took the Christmas tree down, he loved bring me the ornaments and matching the boxes
  • We started watching Muppet Babies on my computer together
  • Had so much fun picking out more Star Wars Mashers characters and sticker book with his Christmas money
  • Went back to school and was very polite
  • Has had so much fun creating things with Legos and Duplos
  • Working on cutting by using old magazines
  • Had so much fun running around and having Devin chase and giggle with him.
  • While at Uncle Matt and Aunt Lori's made a really fun bead art project
  • Has enjoyed typing "passwords" on my phone in the notes section and also rearranged all my icons on my screen!
  • Loved watching Inside Out and popcorn together
  • We made cheesecake together and it was so great to have him help me
  • Had his first snow day!
  • When Ryan went out there to snowblower, had fun walking with him
  • While outside, Kyler hid so well that Ryan could not find him and became very worried because he did not come out when called. Kyler is a very good hider and we were worried he was lost or kidnapped! Now we did rules to make sure he knows when to stop hiding
  • Had fun tackling and playing out in the snow with the neighbors
  • Kyler is such a very good helper when it comes to picking up toys!
  • He keeps asking how many days until my knee is better, guess he wants me back
  • Started to play Mario Kart Wii on his own!
  • Had fun sledding with Daddy and later pulling Devin in it too.
  • Loved looking for a gingerbread man at school
  • Came up with a game of angry birds to do with blocks and Grandpa throwing things
  • Took too many muffins and tried to hide to eat them! Sneaky kiddo
  • Likes to give his playing "chapter titles" like "Hide the Falcon"
  • Had fun sharing my donut for breakfast but wanted to keep eating mine and not let me try his
  • Had a great time at Gymnastics Unlimited jumping into the foam pits and balance beams
  • Designed his own "X-wing fighter" by adding stickers and coloring a leftover diaper box
  • Loves games, but did not handle losing very well.
  • Had a great time eating Ham and Cheese from Subway, now the meal he always requests.
Coloring with Mommy in bed!

He likes to "scare me"

Helping with the shoveling!

Playing "Star Wars Games"

Hanging out with Mommy and the computer

He loves to add lots of things to his Mashers
